design studio II

Designing for people

Studio II is focused on designing interior and exterior spaces for people’s accessibility.

The first project is called the “Streetcar Pavilion”. We focus on creating an exterior space that is along to the New Orleans streetcar line. This stop is created to be a pavilion for people to interact with while waiting or getting off of the streetcar.

The second project is the “Headquarters” which is an interior space that we design based on a nonprofit organization that we created in the previous year’s studio.

Project I

When designing my pavilion, I wanted to bring an aspect of southern Louisiana’s culture to New Orleans. My family is Cajun French and my grandparents speak the dying dialect of Cajun French. This pavilion is separated into four pods that each represent an aspect of learning a language: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The boardwalk in between the pods represents the difficult path of learning a language.

Project II

Project II was designing an interior space around a previous organization that we created. My organization was called “UpStyle” which focused on reducing overconsumption and waste in clothing by teaching people how to sew. The headquarters was a space for local designers to create and teach others with extra room for their pieces to be sold in store. Our final deliverables were hand collaged floor plans and section cuts of the interior space.
