Design Studio I

From Fish to Lamp…

Tulane’s Design Studio I is the first official studio course and is focused on creating a full scale lamp sculpture that were influenced by a study of either plants or fish. For our section, we were required to chose two fish to study and analyze in the first few weeks and then use one to continue to focus on through the rest of the semester. I chose the Hexagoncal Cowfish, scientifically known as the ancanthrostracion quadriconis.

This course is also the first introduction the rhinoceros program. The first half of this course was focused primarily on studying and depicting this fish in different ways with rhino. We were required to model our species, find patterns and motifs, and focus on a piece of the fish that we were interested most in. I focused on the armored layer of the fish’s body and how it remains after decomposition. Below you can find my process work and final products.

My final lamp sculpture and two digital renderings of the lamp within a space.
